Alternative Power Systems

For the past few months our team has been exploring alternative methods for charging and running critical systems involved with robotics, these systems are comprised of the following, but not limited to:

  • Photovoltaic Panels
  • Solar (heat) Energy
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cells
  • Geo-thermal (Hawaii)

Solar Panels

Instead of using the off-the-shelf solution, we decided it would be a better solution to wire the solar panels in series to gain 48 volts DC, instead of regulated 12 volts DC. We are using sets of 15 watt, 48 VDC, solar panels to charge float charge an array of 18 AH batteries. The batteries can then be used to power not only robots, but LCD monitors and computers, to reduce our carbon footprint globally.
